Acceptable Use Policy

1. The spirit of it

BookB is priced so one person can read everything we publish for a modest subscription, or own individual titles outright. That model only works if the library is used the way it is licensed: by you, for you. This policy sets out what fair use of BookB looks like and what crosses the line. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

2. Personal use and account sharing

Your account is for your own personal use. Signing in on your own phone, laptop and tablet is fine — that is what reading-progress sync is for. What is not fine is sharing your login so that other people effectively get the service without paying for it, operating a shared account for a group, or reselling access to your account in any form. If a household member enjoys BookB, we would genuinely rather they joined with their own account than see the library treated as a shared login.

3. No scraping or bulk downloading

You must not use bots, scripts, crawlers or any automated means to access, scrape, harvest or bulk-download books, chapters, covers or any other content from BookB. The download buttons in your account exist for your personal reading copies of titles you have access to — not as an export pipeline. Systematic downloading of the library, even by hand, is treated the same way as scraping.

4. No redistribution or resale

You must not republish, redistribute, resell, sublicense or make BookB content publicly available anywhere else — free or paid. That includes uploading books to file-sharing sites, bundling them into other products, quoting entire chapters wholesale, or using our content to train or fine-tune machine-learning models. Short quotations with attribution for review or comment are welcome and lawful; wholesale copying is not.

5. No interference with the service

You must not attempt to bypass the paywall or entitlement checks, probe or attack the security of the site, overload it with automated traffic, or misuse payment flows (for example with stolen cards or fraudulent chargebacks). You must not use BookB to do anything unlawful.

6. What happens if this policy is breached

For minor or accidental breaches, we will normally warn you first and ask you to stop. For serious breaches — scraping, redistribution, resale, fraud or attacks on the service — we may suspend or permanently close your account without refund of subscription fees for the current period, and we reserve the right to pursue legal remedies. Where the law requires it, we may also report unlawful activity to the relevant authorities.

If you are unsure whether something you want to do is allowed — for example, using an excerpt in teaching materials — just ask us first at admin@bookb.co.uk. We are usually able to say yes to reasonable requests.
